Luis Enrique Talks Arda Turan, Gerard Pique After Barcelona Beat Monchengladbach

Tom SunderlandSep 29, 2016

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has voiced his delight with Arda Turan and Gerard Pique after the duo's goalscoring performances in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Turan came off the bench to bag an equaliser in the midweek trip to Germany, before Pique completed a 2-1 comeback to remember, and the Blaugrana helmsman was overjoyed with his scoring pair, per Football Espana:

"

It’s clear that this group will be very tight because there are no weak teams.

We’re doing our homework. Our objective to be first in the group, but we’re not thinking about it yet.

I’m delighted with Arda Turan. He’s proving the level we all know him to be at this season and helping the team a lot, but it was something we knew when we signed him.

Pique’s playing at a high level. He’s a vital and key player for us.

Barca looked far from their free-flowing best at Borussia-Park and were put to the sword after Thorgan Hazard's 34th-minute breakthrough separated the two sides until Turan steered them back on track.

To play such an important role in the bounce-back victory clearly meant a lot to the player as well, judging by his social media activity after the result:

It was speculated during the summer that Turan could leave the Camp Nou just a year after arriving at the club, per Spanish daily Sport (h/t TalkSport), but the winger has hit back with a vengeance of late.

Following a somewhat underwhelming first six months playing in Catalonia, Turan has been an important cog in Barcelona's success so far this season, illustrated by WhoScored.com:

The Turkey international was not allowed to officially register as a Barcelona player until January 2016 despite his arrival six months prior, and it appears the former Atletico Madrid ace has finally found his groove.

Meanwhile, Pique scored from a corner in the 74th minute to give Barca their win on Wednesday night, and Yahoo's Andrew Gaffney concurred with Luis Enrique regarding his status in the side:

Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer looked assured for the hosts until two conceded goals in 10 minutes saw his side's hopes of an upset turn to rubble, and it was his error that allowed Pique to score in the 73rd minute.

Pique further outlined Sommer's own mistake played a role in his match-winner, too, per La Liga's official Twitter account:

It speaks volumes of Barcelona's squad depth that prominent figures like Pique and emerging staples such as Turan are playing such major roles in the team's results.

The Spanish giants will hope Turan can continue to impress while Lionel Messi continues his recovery from injury, while all Luis Enrique will desire of leader figure Pique is more of the same.
