Why the Texas A&M Aggies can cover the spread

The Aggies are 4-0 both straight up and against the spread after brushing aside Arkansas last week 45-24.

A&M fell down to the Razorbacks three times in the first half and came back each time to tie the score. The Aggies then finally took the lead for good on a 92-yard Trevor Knight-to-Josh Reynolds touchdown connection late in the third quarter and quickly added two more scores to take control on their way toward a cover as seven-point favorites.

Texas A&M racked up 591 yards on offense, 366 on the ground, as both Knight and running back Trayveon Williams hit the 150-yard mark. Knight scored twice on runs of 48 and 42 yards, while Williams ran in from 33 and 22 yards out.

The Aggies have now outgained and outrushed three of four opponents this season.

Why the South Carolina Gamecocks can cover the spread

The Gamecocks are 2-2 both SU and ATS so far and are coming off a tough 17-10 loss at Kentucky last week. South Carolina led the Wildcats 7-3 at the half and took a 10-10 tie into the fourth quarter but fell down by a touchdown and just couldn't respond offensively

On the night, the Gamecocks could come up with only 268 total yards, although their defense held Kentucky to just 351.

South Carolina is on one of those roller-coaster runs at the momentup one week, down the next. The Gamecocks opened their season with a win at Vanderbilt, lost at Mississippi State and then beat East Carolina before losing last week. If recent form holds, the Gamecocks might be a game play this week.

Smart pick

Texas A&M has beaten South Carolina the last two seasons by an average score of 42-28, and the Aggies are improved, while the Gamecocks are rebuilding. Plus, while it may not look like it at first glance, the spread on this game probably leans a little friendlier toward the visiting team. The smart money here gives the points with Texas A&M.

Betting trends

The total has gone under in six of South Carolina's last seven games after a loss.

South Carolina is 1-5 SU in its last six games against its conference.

Texas A&M is 2-5 SU and 1-6 ATS in its last seven games in October.
