Paulo Dybala Injury: Juventus Striker Injures Leg vs. Sampdoria

Gianni VerschuerenMar 19, 2017

Juventus' bid to win a sixth consecutive Serie A title took a hit on Sunday, as star forward Paulo Dybala suffered an injury in the match against Sampdoria

According to Football Italia, he came off the pitch with a muscle injury:

The Argentina international moved to Turin from Palermo in the summer of 2015 and quickly erased memories of Carlos Tevez, becoming a pivotal part of the Bianconeri attack. With his clever movement, dribbling ability and excellent vision, he proved a nightmare to defend.

Here's a look at some of his highlights:

The arrivals of Gonzalo Higuain and Miralem Pjanic in the summer of 2016 meant the 23-year-old had to adjust to a new role, as he was no longer the team's main creative outlet or scoring option, but he continued to be a nuisance for virtually every team he faced.

Juventus also invested in Dinamo Zagreb's Marko Pjaca last summer, a player with similar traits as Dybala who has been used as the Argentinian's main substitute, but the young Croat lacks the experience and explosiveness to fully replicate what Dybala brings to the table.

Dybala missed time earlier during the season due to injury, and manager Massimiliano Allegri gave more playing time to Mario Mandzukic in a central role, with star youngster Moise Kean earning a spot on the bench. While Mandzukic held his own, his partnership with Higuain never took off, and Jventus sorely missed Dybala's creativity and ability to run at defenders.

Even without Dybala, Juventus should remain a dominant force in Italy, where no team has come close to breaking their stranglehold on the title race for years. But the club invested in the likes of Higuain and Pjanic with an eye on European success, where Dybala's loss will be keenly felt.

Fortunately for the Bianconeri, Dybala was able to leave the pitch under his own strength. With an international break on the horizon, he might recover in time for the all-important UEFA Champions League tie against Barcelona.

In the meantime, Higuain and Mandzukic will be asked to carry the scoring load once again, while Pjanic will be looked at even more to create openings for his team-mates. Teen starlet Kean could also see more playing time.
