Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks: WWE Women's Title Match Winner, Reaction from Raw

Mike ChiariOct 3, 2016

Sasha Banks further bolstered her track record of success against Charlotte on Monday's episode of WWE Raw, defeating her to become the WWE Raw women's champion for the second time.

WWE shared an image of the match's conclusion:

Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald and Bleacher Report's Kevin Berge provided their initial takes on the result:

Banks would tweet an image of herself with the belt after the match:

The Nature Girl was in a precarious position, as a double pin during a No. 1 Contender's match led to both Sasha and Bayley getting a shot at the title in a Triple Threat match at Clash of Champions on Sept. 25.

Charlotte, Sasha and Bayley put on what many considered to be the match of the night, as all three competitors came close to winning on multiple occasions. In the end, though, Charlotte laid out Bayley with a big boot to keep the championship in her possession.

Since The Boss didn't take the fall in the match, she demanded a one-on-one rematch against Charlotte with the belt on the line. Sasha never received a singles match for the title after dropping it to Charlotte at SummerSlam on Aug. 21, but the daughter of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair agreed to give Sasha what she desired.

While Charlotte set the match for the following week on Raw, she embraced the opportunity to brag about her place in the WWE women's hierarchy, as WWE's official Twitter account shared:

The arrogance didn't stop there, as Charlotte also boasted about the fact that she backed up what she said she would do at Clash of Champions by retaining the title against two of the best in the business, per WWE Universe:

Charlotte faced a huge challenge Monday in the form of the person who ended her remarkable combined reign of more than 300 days as the Divas champion and women's champion.

Sasha defeated Charlotte for the title in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam, and while she dropped it shortly after partly because of a back injury, she has enjoyed as much success as anyone else against Charlotte dating back to their time in NXT.

By virtue of her victory Monday, Sasha will likely continue to feud with Charlotte over the title, although Bayley and Nia Jax are lurking as well, which could soon throw the championship scene for a loop after weeks of Sasha and Charlotte being the focal points.

Sasha and Charlotte rarely disappoint, and they put on another strong contest Monday. While other women may be deserving of getting pushed into the top program, Sasha and Charlotte have earned their positions, and it's fitting that they will continue to battle it out to determine who is the standard-bearer of the women's division.
