NHL Rumors: Latest Buzz on Jacob Trouba, Nathan Beaulieu and More
NHL teams are in training camp, and the preseason has started. The season will start in earnest in just a couple of weeks, and between now and then, general managers and coaches may decide that they do not like the look of their rosters.
They may try to add free agents or make trades. Sometimes, this will go on behind the scenes. However, when it involves a player like Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba, who is refusing to report to his team because he does not have a contract and has asked for a trade, it's out there for the public to see.

While there are no guarantees that Trouba's holdout will last a long time or that Winnipeg general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is willing to trade him, the Boston Bruins appear to be one of the teams interested in acquiring Trouba's services if he is indeed made available.
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reported that the Bruins were putting together a plan for an offer sheet for the 22-year-old Trouba.
Haggerty reported that a package involving Ryan Spooner, Joe Morrow and a first-round pick could be involved in a trade for Trouba, but that might not be enough to shake the defenseman loose from the Jets. Cheveldayoff might also want a better defensive prospect than Morrow or perhaps a veteran defenseman.
After trading P.K. Subban to the Nashville Predators in the offseason, the Montreal Canadiens may be willing to trade another defenseman.

Nathan Beaulieu could be available if general manager Marc Bergevin gets a strong enough offer for the young defenseman. Bergevin told French-language reporter Francois Gagnon of RDS (h/t Eric Engels of Sportsnet) that his job is to make the Canadiens a better team, and if he got the right offer for Beaulieu, he would give it every consideration.
He explained that it could be similar to the trade of Subban. "Nathan is a good, young player," Bergevin said. "We're not sure what his specific niche is in the NHL. If I want to make my team better, I have to move players that have value."
The Ottawa Senators are apparently interested in upgrading their blue line prior to the start of the season, according to a tweet from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.
Ottawa general manager Pierre Dorion said he's keeping an eye on former Bruin Dennis Seidenberg, who is playing for Team Europe in the World Cup of Hockey, and the team also has an interest in Kris Russell.
If Dorion is unhappy with the way his team plays defense in the preseason, the Sens could make a move for either one of those defensemen.
