Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Christian Pulisic and Victor Lindelof

Gianni VerschuerenSep 22, 2016

Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic is reportedly waiting to sign a new contract with the club until he has a clear view of what his role will be, with Liverpool keeping a close eye on the situation.

As reported by Sports Illustrated (h/t the Daily Star's Rhys Turrell), the teenager was a transfer target for the Reds during the summer, but he opted to continue his development in Germany, despite concerns regarding his playing time.

He's been in superb form to start the 2016-17 campaign and has seen plenty of minutes as a result, but Liverpool are still hopeful of a move, with preparations being made for another January assault. And per the report, Dortmund's plan to tie Pulisic to a new deal to prevent such a move has yet to yield any results.

The 18-year-old faces plenty of competition in Dortmund, with fellow young talents Ousmane Dembele and Emre Mor also gunning for minutes. The Frenchman in particular has been a smash hit since making a summer move, and expectations are massive for the former Rennes man.

Pulisic is a top talent in his own right, and his highlight reel shows a glimpse of the kind of player he is:

The United States international has been more than just excellent these last few weeks, as shared by Ives Galarcep of Goal:

Pulisic turned 18 on Sunday, and the forward already shows remarkable composure. He's a fluid athlete who glides over the pitch with quick feet and always seems to have his eyes up, looking for a pass to play.

Mor might have more raw speed and Dembele might be a better overall athlete, but Pulisic's vision and football IQ set him apart from the two. It's easy to see why BVB have moved him up to the senior side so soon―from a mental point of view, there's little left to learn for the youngster.

U.S. football analyst Matthew Doyle is a fan:

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would love to add a player as talented as Pulisic to his squad, but Dortmund will do everything in their power not to sell. There was plenty of speculation toward the end of the summer transfer window, but Die Schwartzgelben never once indicated even a loan deal was an option.

The player has also yet to give any sign he might be open to a move, and after making three consecutive starts for the club, he won't be complaining about playing time, either.

It would take a major offer to tempt BVB, and even then, Pulisic himself might turn down the Reds. The forward is in a perfect place to continue his development at Signal Iduna Park, and he'll likely be worth a lot more money in just a few years.

Meanwhile, Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t the Daily Record) reports Celtic have joined the Reds, Arsenal and Chelsea on the list of clubs interested in Benfica star Victor Lindelof.

The three Premier League giants reportedly watched the Swedish defender in the UEFA Champions League match against Besiktas, setting up a tight battle for his services.

Lindelof emerged as a key member of Benfica's defence last season after making the switch to Portugal in 2012. The 22-year-old flashed remarkable skills on the ball and plenty of brute strength, earning himself a spot in Sweden's national team along the way. Here are some of his highlights:

Lindelof has the physical attributes of a centre-back but also has experience as a right-back and holding midfielder, highlighting his ability with the ball at his feet. His relative inexperience can show at times, but as he gets more minutes under his belt, his consistency should improve as well.

With so many top clubs already looking at Lindelof, Celtic may find it impossible to compete once official bids are made. A club like Liverpool would have a far better chance, and the Reds could use another young, promising defender who could make an instant impact.
