WWE Clash of Champions 2016: Date, Start Time, Matches, Live Stream, PPV Info

Ryan DilbertSep 21, 2016

When Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins collide at WWE Clash of Champions 2016, more than the Universal Championship will be at stake.

The first Raw-exclusive pay-per-view since the brand split follows SmackDown's Backlash, a show where The Miz shone, AJ Styles rose to the occasion once again and Heath Slater's dreams of upgrading to a double-wide trailer came through. Can the red brand outdo SmackDown's PPV with a longer card and more titles up for grabs?

Fans will find that out starting on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis will host Owen's first universal title defense. Roman Reigns and Rusev will continue where they left off at SummerSlam. And Charlotte will have to fend off both Sasha Banks and Bayley to remain champion.

Clash of Champions, boasting a deeper match card than Backlash, is poised to be a showcase of cruiserweights and contenders, the pillars of the New Era.

Live Stream, PPV Info

Previews, predictions and talk of the top bouts will precede the PPV as usual. Renee Young will host a panel of experts as they break down Clash of Champions.

The pre-show begins at 7 p.m. ET.

Nia Jax and Alicia Fox will provide the in-ring action during the hour-long program. The last time these two met, Jax sent Fox crashing into the security barricade and left her out cold. Fox will get a shot at redemption on Sunday but will be a major underdog against the powerhouse.

Fans can stream the pre-show live for free on WWE.com, the WWE App, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ as well as the WWE Network.

Clash of Champions proper will stream live on the WWE Network (subscription required). Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV are among the platforms carrying the network. Visit WWE.com's help section for a full list of compatible devices.

Traditional PPVs remain an option for those without access to high-speed internet. Check your local cable company to see they if they are among those still carrying WWE PPVs.

Previews of Top Bouts

The Cruiserweights Arrive

Perkins claimed the new Cruiserweight Championship by winning the 32-man Cruiserweight Classic tournament. Kendrick earned the first crack at that prize by outlasting three other men on Sept. 19, winning a Fatal 4-Way match.

This will be a classic battle of the old lion and the young lion fighting for rule over the pride.

Perkins is a fresh-faced newcomer who likes to dance between his attacks. He will face a desperate veteran in Kendrick who is getting a second chance at WWE glory.

Both men have thrilled in recent action. This promises to be mighty fun.

Cesaro vs. Sheamus

Tied at 3-3, the final clash in the Best of Seven series is set to arrive.

Cesaro is in the midst of a stunning comeback. Sheamus had him down 0-3 at one point, but The King of Swing has battled back to being one win away from taking the series.

Cesaro and Sheamus will decide their Best of Seven series at Clash of Champions.

The previous bouts have been marked by hard-hitting offense and the steady drum of flesh on flesh. The last match should be just as physical and likely the best of the bunch.

Raw general manager Mick Foley has promised the winner a title opportunity in the future. Cesaro will have to overcome a bad back and The Celtic Warrior's dangerous Brogue Kick to claim that chance.

Rusev vs. Reigns

At SummerSlam, a title match between these rivals devolved into pure chaos. Reigns battered Rusev before the opening bell, and the brawl settled nothing.

Reigns briefly ventured elsewhere, pursing the Universal Championship, but The Bulgarian Brute dragged him back into this feud. Rusev made sure Reigns didn't win that title on Sept. 12 and followed up the next week by locking himself in a cage with the powerhouse and wailing on him.

The Big Dog will be seeking revenge as well as Rusev's United States title.

This has been a feud with massive potential that hasn't yet fully hit its stride. Clash of Champions could change that. A slobberknocker could invigorate this narrative regardless of the result.

Triple Threat for Women's Title

Charlotte is surrounded. Thanks to a double-pin during a recent Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match, both Banks and Bayley will be climbing into the ring with the champ.

The second-generation wrestler knows both women well from their NXT days. Bayley pushed her to her limits back when she was NXT women's champion. Charlotte and Banks had a long, intense rivalry that spilled out onto the main roster.

The Boss lost the title to Charlotte at SummerSlam as the heel zeroed in on her bad back. Banks will now look to reclaim the strap or else watch her NXT rival Bayley win her first Raw Women's Championship.

The talent involved, the high stakes and the history between all the competitors points to this being the bout that steals the show.

Owens vs. Rollins

The ghost of Triple H will loom as Owens and Rollins lock up.

It was The Game who betrayed his protege to allow Owens to win the Universal Championship. It's Triple H's actions that have left Rollins bewildered, searching for answers. Will the former head of The Authority make his mark felt at Clash of Champions, too?

Rollins, seemingly in the midst of a slow-burn babyface turn, will look to win the belt that he failed to snatch from Finn Balor at SummerSlam and watched Owens hold up after Balor's injury forced him to vacate it.

For Owens, this will be his first main event since joining WWE. Thriving here will go a long way to show the company it made the right choice to crown him.

Both men have produced a stockpile of high-quality matches this year. Expect another one here. Rollins and Owens will be key to making Clash of Champions a bigger success than Backlash.
