Harry Kane Suffers Ankle Injury vs. Millwall in FA Cup Match

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was substituted during the early stages of the team's 6-0 FA Cup win against Millwall on Sunday with what appeared to be an ankle problem.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be forced to assess his attacking options after Kane was replaced by Christian Eriksen. James Olley of the Evening Standard confirmed the change:

After the match, David Hytner of the Guardian reported Kane left White Hart Lane on crutches, with his foot in a protective boot.

On Tuesday, Spurs announced "the injury is similar to the one suffered by the forward against Sunderland in Sept. last year, however it is not considered to be as severe."

The England international endured another slow start to the season but found his form after failing to score in the first three games of the Premier League campaign. He's been in a sensational groove as of late, leading the top-flight goalscoring charts with 19 strikes.

For Spurs, there's no replacement who can offer quite what Kane does. Pochettino may look to struggling summer signing Vincent Janssen to lead the line in the striker's absence, although Heung-Min Son is another who could feature in a more advanced role.

Son has had a particularly big influence in front of goal for Spurs this season and has scored 12 goals in 37 games this season after settling for a bit-part role at the club in the past.

Kane, last season's Premier League Golden Boot winner, has been critical to Spurs' success in recent times and was a major component in the club's run to third place in the Premier League during the 2015-16 season.

The 23-year-old failed to miss a match en route to clinching his Golden Boot last season, although any hopes of defending his accolade in 2016-17 could be damaged by this latest setback.
