Lions QB Matthew Stafford Lowers His Shoulder, Trucks Titans CB Perrish Cox
Kyle NewportJun 8, 2018
It's not every day a quarterback trucks a defender, but at 6'3" and 226 pounds, the Detroit Lions' Matthew Stafford can use his size to pick up a few extra yards when necessary.
On 3rd-and-8 during the second quarter of the Lions' game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Stafford tried to pick up a first down with his legs. When he encountered Titans cornerback Perrish Cox (6'0", 190 pounds) a few yards past the line of scrimmage, the signal-caller lowered his shoulder and ran over the undersized defender.
Stafford only picked up seven yards on the run, but Tennessee was called for illegal use of hands on the play—a five-yard penalty that resulted in a first down.
