Why the Texas A&M Aggies can cover the spread

The Aggies are off to a 2-0 start to this season both SU and ATS, following last week's 67-0 whitewash of Prairie View A&M. Texas A&M led the Panthers 17-0 after the first quarter and 38-0 at the half, and the Aggies continued to roll from there on their way to the cover as a seven-touchdown favorite. The Aggies eventually outgained Prairie View, 672-205, racking up 277 yards on the ground and 395 through the air.

Showing off its big-play ability, A&M scored three times on plays of 30 yards or more and also on a punt return, while the defense capped off its shutout with a sack/safety in the final minute.

New starting quarterback Trevor Knight, the grad transfer from Oklahoma, threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns in just the first half and ran for another score. Through two games, Knight owns four TD passes and three TD runs.

Two weeks ago, the Aggies opened this season with a 31-24 overtime victory over Pac-12 contender UCLA, covering five points.

Why the Auburn Tigers can cover the spread

Following a tough season-opening loss to highly regarded Clemson, these Tigers bounced back to beat Arkansas State last week, 51-14. That game was tied at 7-7 late in the first quarter, until Auburn scored 34 unanswered points to take control on its way to the cover as a 20-point favorite.

The Tigers even rubbed it in a little on the Red Wolves with a touchdown off a fake field goal in the second quarter.

On the night, Auburn outgained Arkansas State, 706-326, rushing for 462, as both Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson hit the 100-yard mark. And sophomore quarterback Sean White connected on 17 of 23 throws for 244 yards and three scores without an interception.

Despite the 19-13 loss to Clemson two weeks ago, the Auburn defense played well, and a late touchdown run by Johnson gave Auburn the cash as a seven-point home dog.
