Boston Celtics' Isaiah Thomas Joins Kid on Playground Basketball Court
Isaiah Thomas made a kid's night by joining him on the basketball court.
Per the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach, the Boston Celtics guard and his wife were on their way home from their son's back-to-school night when Thomas saw someone shooting baskets alone on the rainy Tuesday evening. Thomas decided to give him some company:
"He was the only kid there. So I'm like, "I'm just going to go get some shots up with him." When I walked over, he rebounded his own shot and turned around and I'm like, "Can I get a couple shots?" And he stopped. He didn't even say a word, like his eyes were so big. He just stopped and froze and I'm like, "Pass me the ball."
"
Robbie McNulty, a 14-year-old from Cambridge, Massachusetts, shot around with his favorite NBA player after his first day of high school. The Celtics fan described the surreal experience:
"It was just so nice of him to come over and play with me. I bet he didn't even think it would be that big of a deal to me, but for me, like, it's crazy. He's an NBA All-Star and he's just looking at you and talking to you.
"
Thomas' simple gesture of taking jumpers for 10 minutes gave McNulty a story he'll never forget.
He texted his mom after the encounter: "The best thing ever just happened to me."
