Lane Kiffin, Alabama Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Alec NathanSep 9, 2016

The Alabama Crimson Tide and offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin agreed to a contract extension on Friday that will double the 41-year-old's salary to $1.4 million, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman

The Tuscaloosa News' Ed Enoch reported that Kiffin's contract was officially extended through Feb. 2017 following a vote by the university's trustees compensation committee.

Revised terms dictate that Kiffin's contract will now expire at season's end.

According to AL.com's Michael Casagrande, Kiffin was making below market value at $680,000 during his first two seasons at Alabama before the initial bump to $714,000 in 2016 because he was receiving severance payments from USC.

Kiffin was fired by the Trojans following a 3-2 start to the 2013 season.

Kiffin—who's now the highest paid assistant on head coach Nick Saban's staff—exacted revenge against his former employer last weekend when the Crimson Tide trounced USC 52-6 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

In the rout, Alabama outgained USC by 271 yards, including 242-62 on the ground as Damien Harris led the way with nine carries for 138 yards.

With a home tilt against the the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, Kiffin should be licking his chops about the possibility of another massive blowout victory in advance of a compelling Week 3 clash with Ole Miss.
