The Seattle Seahawks are hoping for a healthier campaign in 2016 with tight end Jimmy Graham and running back Thomas Rawls both returning from injuries. The Seahawks will start their run toward a third Super Bowl appearance in four years when they host the Miami Dolphins as extra-large betting favorites.

Point spread: The Seahawks opened as 7.5-point favorites; the total was 45.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates and matchup report).

Why the Dolphins can cover the spread

The Dolphins have a new head coach in former offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who held that position previously with the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. Gase was a hot name two years ago before he ultimately landed in Chicago and helped get quarterback Jay Cutler back on track. Now he is tasked with bringing out the best in Miami signal-caller Ryan Tannehill, who threw for a career-high 4,208 yards last season.

The Dolphins have won five of the past six meetings with Seattle both straight up and against the spread, according to the Odds Shark NFL Database.

Why the Seahawks can cover the spread

Offensively, the Seahawks are now officially Russell Wilson's team with running back Marshawn Lynch retiring in the offseason. Wilson is coming off a career year as well and has plenty of weapons at his disposal, including Graham, Rawls and second-year wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who has the potential to be a star in this league.

Behind Wilson's leadership, the sky's the limit for Seattle, and a return to the Super Bowl could happen if everyone can stay healthy. The Seahawks are an impressive 7-2-1 ATS in their past 10 as double-digit favorites and will be primed to break out here after starting last season with a surprising road loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Smart pick

Miami closed out last year by failing to cover the spread in six of the last seven, and the changes the team made in the offseason will not show up right away. It will take time for the new pieces to fit together, and starting off with a visit to Seattle right away looks to be a nightmare.

The Seahawks were disappointed with how last year ended and will take out those frustrations on the Dolphins as they win big and cover the spread easily.

Betting trends

The Dolphins are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six games against the Seahawks.

The total has gone under in five of the Seahawks' last six games.

The Dolphins are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games.
