Matt JonesMar 28, 2018

Barcelona full-back Lucas Digne injured his thigh on international duty with France against Colombia on Friday.

The defender was forced off after 79 minutes of the 3-2 defeat in Paris and missed France's second friendly against Russia on Tuesday.

The Catalan giants confirmed the problem suffered by the Frenchman, who is in his second season at the Camp Nou:

Having failed to make a breakthrough at Paris Saint-Germain, Digne spent 2015-16 on loan at AS Roma, before Barcelona swooped to secure him on a permanent deal ahead of the next campaign.

When he was handed a chance last term, the Blaugrana star impressed with his forays on the left flank. The 24-year-old offers a fine outlet going forward, providing width and impetus to the Barcelona attacks when he has been in the first team.

Thankfully for manager Ernesto Valverde, there are options in the squad to step in with Digne sidelined.

Jordi Alba remains the first-choice left-back in Catalonia, and his blistering bursts into the final third have been a hallmark of Barcelona's attacking play under the 54-year-old; Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen can both fill in there, too.
