Ohio State Names Mike Weber Starting Running Back, Calls Parents to Break News
It's not always bad news when a coach calls a parents.
Ohio State assistant head coach and running backs coach Tony Alford phoned the parents of Mike Weber Jr. to tell them that their son had been declared the team's starting running back. He went to Mom and Dad before breaking the news to the freshman, who hopefully has found out by now.
"Your son has done a great job, and so I wanted to give you guys a call and let you know, today, we are going to name him the starting at Ohio State," Alford said after running down the program's prestigious pedigree of rushers.
Their elated reaction capped off the feel-good moment. As Alford told them, head coach Urban Meyer considers the running back position his team's "Cadillac," so Weber will play a pivotal role for the Buckeyes this season.
