Tottenham Hotspur snapped up Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a season-long loan on Wednesday.

Spurs announced the deadline-day deal via their official Twitter feed:

The 21-year-old rose through the ranks at the Catalan side and became the club's first-choice 'keeper last season after impressing in the Copa del Rey the year before.

Here are some of his highlights from last year (from one minute, four seconds):

BeIN Sports' David Cartlidge isn't a fan of the youngster:

Of course, withย Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm at the club, Lopez has most likely been brought in to add more depth to Mauricio Pochettino's goalkeeping optionsโ€”barring injuries or suspensions, he's not likely to feature much in the first team unless he plays in cup competitions.

Here's a look at his stats compared with Lloris last year, courtesy of Squawka:

The Spaniard was playing under different circumstances to the Frenchmanโ€”Lloris was taking part in a title race with the joint-best defence in the league in front of him, while Lopez's Espanyol had a poor season and were not too far off the relegation places.

If he can prove to be a reliable back-up to Lloris and Vorm, he'll be useful addition to the squadโ€”it may even show he can have a long-term future at the club as an eventual replacement for Lloris.
