Chelsea Transfer News: Cesc Fabregas Targeted by AC Milan, Latest Blues Rumours

Tom SunderlandAug 31, 2016

AC Milan are reportedly "in contact" with Chelsea about a deadline-day move for midfielder Cesc Fabregas, but the Premier League giants are understood to have rejected any approaches for their playmaker.

Sky Sports News HQ reported the Blues are ready to ignore the Rossoneri and keep Fabregas at Stamford Bridge this season:

Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Wednesday that while "nothing is concrete," Milan have let Chelsea know they're interested in the Spaniard, who is understood to be on a salary of €8 million (£6.8 million).

Word of Milan's approach to sign the Spain international comes just days after Fabregas took to Twitter to deny any speculation of a rift between him and his new manager, Antonio Conte:

The Italian appears to favour a midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Oscar and summer signing N'Golo Kante, with Fabregas having only played 12 minutes of Premier League football three games into the new season.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona man was a key figure for Chelsea during their Premier League title-winning campaign of 2014-15, however, and OptaPaolo pointed him out as one of the division's most creative stars in recent times:

Milan are looking for ammunition after the likes of Stephan El Shaarawy, Jeremy Menez and Kevin-Prince Boateng all left for pastures new during the summer transfer window.

However, while Fabregas has struggled to feature prominently under Conte thus far, it doesn't appear as though he's ready to give up on his Chelsea future just yet.

It's perhaps unsurprising that former Juventus and Italy coach Conte has favoured a more rigid midfield tandem of Matic and Kante early in his Stamford Bridge tenure, as this is a tactic he deployed in previous jobs, too.

Di Marzio explained the Rossoneri are looking to stage a "huge coup" in midfield, but Chelsea may not be the negotiators who will help it materialise.
