James Jones Reportedly Released by Chargers: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Veteran wide receiver James Jones is on the market again after the San Diego Chargers released him Monday, according to journalist Annie Heilbrunn.
Jones signed with the Chargers in August in an effort to provide depth to the roster, but the situation didn't work out for him or the organization.
As Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune argued, the unfamiliarity was a reason for his dismissal:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The 32-year-old is coming off a strong season with the Green Bay Packers, finishing with 890 receiving yards on 50 catches and eight touchdowns in 2015. He played in all 16 games, starting 15. This was a continuation of his successful past in Green Bay, where he scored 45 touchdowns over eight seasons, including a career-high 14 in 2012.
Unfortunately, Jones hasn't had as much success away from signal-caller Aaron Rodgers. He finished with only 666 receiving yards on 9.1 yards per catch in his one season with the Oakland Raiders. He also failed to make the New York Giants roster at the start of 2015 before re-signing with the Packers.
He was happy to find a home in San Diego this summer after struggling to land a contract for much of the free-agency period, per Ricky Henne of Chargers.com:
"Over my career, I really don’t think I’ve gotten the respect I deserve as a player in this league. I’ve been unappreciated in this league a little bit. To see the reaction of the fans here in San Diego the last day; it shows that I am appreciated by them. But I am still going out there trying to earn respect. That’s the name of the game. Respect. You always want to go out there and get respect from your peers and those around you. I just feel I have a lot more to prove than ever before.
"
Jones failed to make an impact with the Chargers, though. He finished with two catches for 21 yards in each of San Diego's last two preseason games, while other players were able to make a bigger impact.
Keenan Allen remains the go-to option at receiver for the team, while Travis Benjamin, Tyrell Williams and Dontrelle Inman are in line to get plenty of work in 2016.
