Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Christian Pulisic and Mamadou Sakho Rumours

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly rejected Liverpool's late approach to sign Christian Pulisic as manager Jurgen Klopp seeks a reunion with the youngster. Meanwhile, Mamadou Sakho has turned down a move to Stoke City.

According to German newspaper Kicker, the Black and Yellows rebuffed the Reds' opening offer to sign Pulisic, who has earned rave reviews since moving to Signal Iduna Park in 2015 (h/t Liverpool Echo's Kristian Walsh).

The 17-year-old has made 12 senior appearances for the Bundesliga giants since moving to Germany a little more than 18 months ago, earning six caps for the United States national team since then.

Liverpool blogger Viktor Fagerstrom also sourced Kicker and added that if Dortmund were to negotiate a departure for their teenage dynamo, it couldn't be on temporary terms:

Pulisic is considered by many to be arguably the biggest prospect to have emerged from the United States for some time, and it makes sense the Fenway Sports Group-owned Liverpool might want his services.

The BBC's John Bennett also provided further context on the youngster's standing relationship with the Reds' chief, Klopp, who is still leaving his mark on the Liverpool squad in his first full season at Anfield:

The Merseysiders already have a wealth of talent in attacking midfield, with Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all among those vying for similar positions under Klopp.

However, Pulisic would present a long-term investment unlike any other already at the club's disposal, and Goal's Melissa Reddy detailed some of the prodigy's other attributes:

Elsewhere, it appears misfit defender Sakho won't be completing a move to the Bet365 Stadium, after he reportedly rejected the opportunity to join the Potters this summer.

That's according to Walsh, who cited the Mirror and added Stoke chief Mark Hughes is now prepared to look elsewhere for a centre-back, and the Telegraph's Chris Bascombe noted it was the player's choice:

According to Walsh, Klopp has taken the decision to loan Sakho out in a bid to "regain fitness and form" after prematurely ending his 2015-16 campaign following a drug test that showed evidence of a fat-burner.

Dejan Lovren has started all three league outings for the Reds this season, while Ragnar Klavan has started twice and Joel Matip started once, but Klopp appears content to see Sakho leave on temporary terms.
