Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Diego Forlan and Will Keane Rumours

Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has revealed he turned down the opportunity to return to English football this summer but said he would return to Old Trafford if asked. Meanwhile, Will Keane is on his way to top-flight rivals Hull City.

Forlan recently wrote in his column for Abu Dhabi-based newspaper the National, confessing he had offers for an English return this summer and joked he'd play under new United manager Jose Mourinho if asked (h/t Goal's Tom Maston):

I had offers to play in England this summer and last. The only team I will play for in England is Manchester United. If Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford all were out of the picture, I would be happy to go on an emergency loan and help out United.

Maybe play at Liverpool away, score a goal or two and then make way when the injured come back. I had offers from Spain and Italy, too. But I feel that I have done my time in both countries, sampled the life there and enjoyed myself. Now I am ready for something new.

"

The 37-year-old was confirmed as one of Mumbai City's latest signings earlier in August, and the veteran will have his chance to extend an already illustrious career in the 2016 Indian Premier League campaign.

Despite his age, Forlan could still be a valuable asset in the emerging first tier of Indian football, said football agent Baljit Rihal recently:

Forlan scored a total of 14 goals in 92 appearances for United across a two-year span, and the English titans have since gone through a raft of star strikers since the former Uruguay ace took his leave of Old Trafford.

Following Ibrahimovic's arrival at the club, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as backup, Mourinho should be settled on his forward force for now, but Forlan's offer will undoubtedly go down well with his old fans.

Elsewhere, Keane is reportedly poised for a medical at the KC Stadium after Hull agreed a £1 million fee to sign the United forward, according to MailOnline's Matt Barlow and Rory O'Callaghan.

The 23-year-old is on the brink of an exit long after establishing himself as a potential star at the Theatre of Dreams, although Stuart Mathieson of the Manchester Evening News wondered what might have been:

Despite making his senior Manchester United debut all the way back in December 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson, Keane has struggled to fulfil expectations with the Red Devils after a slew of injuries.

Sibling and fellow United academy alumnus Michael left Old Trafford for Burnley last year, and Ian Abrahams of TalkSport revealed an interesting piece of trivia about the brothers in the wake of Monday's news:

Keane looks set to leave United after making just three first-team appearances for his childhood club, although his record of 35 goals in 58 games for their under-23 side, per Transfermarkt, is much more attractive.

Barlow and O'Callaghan reported Hull could sell wantaway striker Abel Hernandez to Championship side Aston Villa, meaning the level of competition at the KC Stadium could fall by one in time for Keane's arrival.
