Manchester United Transfer News: Memphis Depay and Marcos Rojo Exit Rumours

Stuart NewmanAug 27, 2016

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to let Dutch winger Memphis Depay leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

The former PSV Eindhoven star arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation as one of the most exciting wide men in the world, but it’s safe to say he hasn’t lived up to his billing.

Sam Wallace of Daily Telegraph wrote that Depay is available for transfer, although any club looking to sign him will have to stump up close to the £26 million that United paid for his services just last summer.

Depay, who was recently dropped by the Netherlands, scored just five goals for United in all competitions last season, according to WhoScored.com, with performances failing to capture the imagination of the Old Trafford faithful.

And now there’s more competition for attacking and wide-midfield places than ever at Manchester United, shipping off to pastures new may well be the only way for the 22-year-old to guarantee first-team football.

That’s something he desperately needs if he’s to get back into the international frame, too. Netherlands coach Danny Blind said that until Depay finds a way back into United’s squad, he won’t be in his plans, per Sky Sports.

"I have spoken to Memphis and while he feels fit, I've told him I think that it is important that he first concentrates on getting back a spot in the 18-man squad at Manchester United," the Oranje coach said. "Hopefully, then he gets back in picture for our next internationals in October and thereafter."

This could well mean Depay himself will be pushing for an exit route from the Theatre of Dreams, which will put clubs in Europe on red alert. However, the £26 million fee is likely to put many off.

Another player seemingly surplus to requirements under new manager Jose Mourinho is defender Marcos Rojo.

The versatile Argentinian hasn’t featured in this season’s Premier League so far, with Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly in excellent form at the back, and chances are set to be few and far between for the foreseeable future.

LaLiga side Valencia are ready to pounce on Mourinho’s lack of faith in Rojo, as Deporte Valenciano reported they’re preparing a £10 million bid for his services, per Gary Stonehouse of the Sun.

Manchester United have started the 2016/17 Premier League campaign with two impressive wins out of two, and they travel to newly promoted Hull City on Saturday looking for the hat-trick.

Fans are optimistic that Mourinho can take the club all the way this term, and the fact that he’s looking to clear out some of the club’s deadwood shows he means business.
