Tottenham Transfer News: Latest on Son Heung-Min and DeAndre Yedlin Rumours

Rob BlanchetteAug 23, 2016

Wolfsburg are interested in bringing Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-Min back to the Bundesliga after an underwhelming spell in the Premier League.

Sky Germany (h/t Sky Sports) reported the German club are willing to pay in the region of £17.2 million for the mercurial forward.

Son arrived at White Hart Lane in 2015 after a prolific spell at Bayer Leverkusen, but has been unable to replicate his best form in the physical environment of English football.

The South Korea international has "shown an interest" in returning to Germany as a number of clubs line up to offer him a new home. However, Sky Germany add Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to retain the player for the new season as the club attempts to build on last term's excellent showing in the Premier League.

The attacker has been on international duty at the Olympics in Brazil and is yet to appear for his team this season.

Son signed a five-year deal on his arrival at the club last year, and made 40 appearances for his new side, according to Darren Lewis of the MirrorPochettino has since added Vincent Janssen to his attack during the transfer window, further restricting Son's chances of starting.

The Spurs manager lauded the Dutch striker after his first bow in the Premier League, per Lewis.

 Pochettino said:

"

The way Vincent fights and works for the team is unbelievable, one of his best skills.

Our supporters are very happy with his performance and we're happy as well.

He’s a great, great player and great man as well and he's only 21, only young and he can improve a lot.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - JULY 29: DeAndre Yedlin of Tottenham Hotspur controls the ball during 2016 International Champions Cup Australia match between Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico de Madrid at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 29, 2016 in Melbourne,

In other news, defender DeAndre Yedlin will be shown the door by Pochettino after being told he does not feature in the coach's plans.

Sky Sports (h/t Charlie Phillippe of the Express) reported the American will have a medical at Newcastle United as he prepares for a switch back to the north-east. The 23-year-old featured on loan for Sunderland last term, helping the side avoid relegation.

The United States international arrived in England with lots of potential and a strong reputation, but he hasn't displayed enough quality to penetrate Spurs' starting XI.

Son has also only shown flashes of brilliance after his big money switch last year but has not appeared fully acclimatised in England.

The forward certainly has a bag of tricks at his disposal and an eye for goal, but with Janssen likely to partner Harry Kane in attack, it is likely Son will be left on the bench to become an impact substitute in 2016-17.
