Toronto Raptors Reveal Alternate Huskies and Chinese New Year Uniforms
The Toronto Raptors unveiled two new alternate uniforms for the 2016-17 season.
One commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Toronto Huskies, a Basketball Association of America franchise which folded after one season. The other alternate jersey will celebrate Chinese New Year.
According to Toronto Star's Morgan Campbell, the Raptors will don the Huskies throwbacks during six home games. As the fourth team (Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets) to adapt Chinese New Year jerseys, the jerseys will be worn two or three times leading up to January 28.
“We’re always trying to figure out: How does the Raptors brand connect with all these different people from different parts of the world?” Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment head of brand marketing Dave Freeman said. “With the makeup of our city, we thought it was a no-brainer for us.”
The Raptors last wore Huskies jerseys in 2009, when Chris Bosh and rookie DeMar DeRozan donned white throwback unis.
