According to Dave Spadaro of the team's official website, Sturgis wasn't wearing a helmet while warming up on the field and was hit on the head by a punt.

Sturgis Has Struggled at NFL Level

Sturgis, who is preparing for his fourth season in the NFL and his second with the Eagles, has experienced a rocky start to his career.

Following his first two seasons, the Miami Dolphins cut Sturgis after he missed 16 field goals in 32 games, recording a mediocre 77.5 field-goal percentage.

Last season with the Eagles, he improved to 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) but still found himself on the hot seat at times.

In Week 4 against the Washington Redskins, Sturgis missed a 33-yard field goal and an extra-point attempt, which proved crucial in a 23-20 loss. After the game, former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly didn't give him a ringing endorsement, per Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"Looked at what's available out there," Kelly said. "I think the state of kicking in the league right now is not very good. There has been a lot of changes. ... We feel, in terms of what's available out there, we are going to stick with Caleb."
