Barcelona Transfer News: Salomon Rondon Interest, Latest Paco Alcacer Rumours
Barcelona have reportedly made West Bromwich Albion's Salomon Rondon a surprise target as they continue in their attempts to bolster their attacking cover.
Per Sport, the "main objective" of the Blaugrana is to bring in Valencia striker Paco Alcacer to provide back-up for undisputed starting trio Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
However, should that deal fall through, Barca could make a move for 26-year-old Rondon, who is one of six options—along with Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez, Atletico Madrid's Luciano Vietto and AC Milan's Carlos Bacca—the Liga giants are assessing, according to James Nursey in the Mirror.

Vietto is likely off the table, having moved to Sevilla on loan in July, while ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan previously noted that alternative targets Nolito, Kevin Gameiro and Bacca have also slipped through Barcelona's fingers.

As a result, the targets they are reportedly pursuing are becoming more surprising, with Rondon the latest of them.
The Venezuela international moved to West Brom from Zenit Saint Petersburg for £12 million last summer and made a decent return of nine goals and two assists in his debut Premier League season, per WhoScored.com.
He already has La Liga experience, having previously played for Malaga in the Spanish top flight, netting 25 goals over 67 appearances in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
However, it would be a huge step up for him to move to a club of Barcelona's stature.
Per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe, manager Luis Enrique already has decent cover in almost every position except at the top of his attack, where Luis Suarez is the only genuine option as the front-line striker.
Barca need to rectify the situation, as there is always the possibility that Suarez could get injured.
Alcacer, 22, would be a decent option. He is young, strong and improving, and he has been excellent since he advanced to the Valencia first team, netting 30 Liga goals and providing 13 assists in the last three seasons, per WhoScored.com.
Corrigan believes the Spain international would be an excellent addition to the Barca squad:
Rondon, though, would be a wasteful purchase, as he has not proved that he is good enough to be an asset at Barcelona.
He is a decent striker but no more than that, and given that he should now be at his peak, he would be an inadequate back-up for the likes of Suarez, Neymar and Messi.
