Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps Appear on 'Sports Illustrated' Cover

Andrew GouldJun 8, 2018

A dozen Olympic gold medals grace the latest Sports Illustrated cover. Before the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro end, United States stars Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps and Simone Biles will appear on the magazine's cover.

In his last Olympics run, Phelps increased his record-shattering medal tally to 28 by winning five gold and one silver in six events. U.S. swimming is in good hands without him, though, as Ledecky decisively won all three of her individual events.

The 19-year-old finished with four gold and one silver in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay. Phelps, now 31 years old, gave the breakout star some pointers on keeping her hardware organized:

The photo shoot occurred before Biles could close out her gymnastic events in Rio. The 19-year-old added a bronze to the three gold medals seen in the cover before collecting another gold in Tuesday's floor exercise final.

It marks Phelps' 11th SI cover, so Ledecky and Biles have a lot of catching up to do. But this should be far from the last time either Olympian receives the recognition.
