Olympic Track & Field 2016: Live Results and Highlights from August 16
It was a night of impressive performances in athletics, although in a rare twist, few of them came from the United States.
The Americans have had a good run throughout the 2016 Rio Olympics and especially in track and field, but they could only manage one bronze medal in three finals events Tuesday night.
Jennifer Simpson earned the only medal by grabbing third place in the 1,500-meter final, finishing behind former world champion and surprise winner Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya.
Oregon football player Devon Allen had a chance to medal in the 110-meter hurdles but ended up in fifth place as Jamaica's Omar McLeod took home the gold. Meanwhile, Canada's Derek Drouin cruised to victory in the high jump by nailing each of his first five jumps to earn the gold. USA's Erik Kynard won the silver in 2012 but managed just a sixth-place finish.
Considering the success the Americans have had otherwise in Rio, it's nice to see some other athletes in the spotlight.
