Timothy RappAug 15, 2016

Running back and 4-star prospect Ty Chandler announced his commitment to the Tennessee Volunteers on Monday, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.

The 5'11 ½", 195-pound Chandler is considered the No. 6 running back in the class of 2017, the No. 6 player from the state of Tennessee and the No. 103 prospect overall, per 247Sports.

Chandler had an epic junior season, rushing 346 times for 2,558 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Wiltfong called him "as complete a running back prospect you'll find in America in the 2017 recruiting class." He added: "Chandler is a touchdown threat every single time he touches the football. A prospect that finds the hole quickly and doesn't need much daylight to get into the open field and has the legit speed to take it the distance."

Wiltfong also called him a "quintessential every-down back." He noted that Chandler can make plays in the passing game and "has the wheels and ball skills to stretch the field and be a matchup nightmare with his versatility to line [up] at every skill position on offense."

The news excited Tennessee's staff, as head coach Butch Jones and running backs coach Robert Gillespie both tweeted after learning of Chandler's commitment:

Chandler will have the opportunity to play immediately in 2017, likely competing with John Kelly and Carlin Fils-Aime for playing time in his freshman campaign. Fellow 3-star tailback recruit Trey Coleman will also be in the mix.
