On the bright side, the Americans got a bounce-back performance from Klay Thompson. He entered the game averaging 2.8 points per contest but dropped 30.
France, which rested Tony Parker, was led by Thomas Huertel and Nando de Colo, who scored 18 points apiece.
Team USA awaits the results of Monday's action to see who it will play in the knockout round.
