Summer Olympics 2016 Schedule: Rio TV, Live Stream Coverage for Saturday Events

Tom SunderlandAug 13, 2016

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games are set to step it up a notch on Saturday, and the introduction of many track events will see the Summer Games light up following Friday's athletics debut.

Some of the long-distance medals have already been decided, but the short-and-sweet appeal will get into its more intense stages on Day 8 as the men's 100-metre sprint makes its first appearance in Brazil.

The action will continue away from the track and field events, too, and indoor events such as cycling and gymnastics will reach their business end.

Track Stars Arrive in Rio

As entertaining as many of the non-arena sports have been up until now, there's something about a stadium packed to capacity cheering on the athletics events that never ceases to brighten up any Olympic Games.

And after a week of waiting, the men's 100-metre sprint will make its return to competition on Day 8, and reigning Olympic champion Usain Bolt will be in action for Round 1 of the contest, per Rio 2016:

A 100-metre triumph in Rio could see Bolt do what no other sprinter has done before and win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the event, but competition is rife heading into this year's sprint.

One dark horse to keep an eye on will be United States starlet Trayvon Bromell, who recently took to his official Twitter account and suggested he's ready to achieve the unthinkable:

Bromell took bronze at the world championships in 2015 and has already clocked 9.84 seconds in the United States championships this year, which suggests he could contend for top spot.

That being said, Bolt broke the record with a time of 9.69 seconds at Beijing 2008 before recording a time of 9.63 seconds four years on, and the question remaining now is whether the Jamaica star can go one better again in Rio.

Men's Football Quarter-Finals

Nils Petersen scored five in Germany's recent 10-0 drubbing of Fiji.

The men's football tournament appears to be wide open following the early departures of giants Argentina and Mexico, and the quarter-final schedule will surely see more titans fall on Saturday.

Goal's Ives Galarcep suggested the gold medal is potentially there for the taking for those still in with a shot, particularly after the reigning champions took their leave of Rio:

Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated also highlighted the emergence of an Asian heavyweight in the shape of South Korea, who are their confederation's last remaining representative, as are Honduras:

The Hondurans in particular have been something of a surprise package in Brazil after finishing second in Group D and helping Argentina head for the exit in the process, while Germany looked strong in a recent 10-0 drubbing of Fiji.

However, Group D winners Portugal are sure to give Die Mannschaft a run for their money at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia, while Nigeria's youngsters will hope to make the semis in front of Denmark.
