Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi Rumours

Arsenal could see one German star arrive while another leaves this summer following reports Mesut Ozil is ready to return to Real Madrid "immediately," while Shkodran Mustafi may be nearing a Gunners move.

According to German newspaper Bild, Ozil is prepared to make a hasty return to the Santiago Bernabeu should Los Blancos come calling, news that's sure to disappoint the playmaker's current fans (h/t Metro's Mark Brus).

Ozil left the Spanish capital for north London in 2013, and Real have since gone on to win the UEFA Champions League on two occasions, reminding the Germany international of what he's missing out on.

Amid speculation of a return to Madrid, however, Ozil recently posted an image to his official Twitter account that suggested he's excited to get back underway with the Gunners:

By contrast, Ozil has won two FA Cups and a Community Shield during his three-year stay under manager Arsene Wenger, but that doesn't alter the perception he's allegedly "enthusiastically ready" for a Real return.

Despite not maintaining the same title ambitions since moving to the Premier League, Ozil has at least made steps up in his individual development, according to Opta statistician Orbinho:

Meanwhile, links to Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi have taken another turn after the German's social media activity spiked attention from some eagle-eyed fans.

Metro's Lee Thomas-Mason reported Arsenal supporters were sent into "an uncontrollable meltdown of excitement" after seeing Mustafi like an Instagram post from Granit Xhaka, who himself moved to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Mustafi has been linked with a move to Arsenal for some weeks, and speculation has only intensified following injuries to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

What's more, Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol detailed Mustafi had been left out of the Valencia squad for a recent pre-season matchup, prompting fresh speculation over his future:

We live in the age where the slightest bit of online activity can be interpreted to suggest an athlete's next career step, and Mustafi's has been taken to mean he'll be joining Xhaka at the Emirates.

Wenger is currently looking at the prospect of a makeshift defence for Sunday's Premier League opener against Liverpool, although the arrival of Mustafi could certainly help ease the burden.
