Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Lucas Leiva and Juanma Garcia Rumours

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly called off Lucas Leiva's move to Galatasaray after deciding to keep the midfielder at Anfield. Meanwhile, the Reds are closing in on a deal to sign former Barcelona left-back Juanma Garcia.

Per the Mirror's David Anderson, the Turkish club were under the impression they had snatched the Brazilian from Merseyside, but sporting director Levent Nazifoglu confirmed the move is now off.

He said: "We are no longer pursuing Lucas Leiva. We will continue efforts to sign alternative names instead."

Lucas is the longest-serving player currently at Anfield, having joined Liverpool from Brazilian outfit Gremio in 2007 and since racking up a total of 315 appearances for his Premier League employers.

Per Anderson, it was Klopp who put a stop to his anchor's Turkish transition at the 11th hour due to the fact recent injuries have left him unsure on how much cover he has in certain areas.

Despite seeing his prominence fall in Merseyside of late, Lucas boasts an impressive record in numerous regards after building a reputation as one of more revered enforcers in the English game, per OptaCan:

However, injuries have significantly stunted Lucas' first-team contributions in recent years, with the likes of Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and James Milner all sitting ahead of the South American.

All those midfielders are somewhat more rounded in their abilities, too, illustrated by just how entertained Klopp was to see Lucas once do as little as get a shot off at goal, as he told the club's official Twitter account:

Elsewhere, the Reds are understood to be on the verge of completing the capture of free agent Juanma, who recently enjoyed a successful trial with the English giants, according to MailOnline's Simon Jones.

The Spaniard will reportedly sign on the dotted line for Liverpool provided he passes his medical, with Paddy Power joking that competition is needed for incumbent left-back Alberto Moreno:

Former Sevilla star Moreno has attracted some criticism in England's top flight due to a lack of defensive awareness at times, but the 24-year-old is his club's only fit option in the role.

Juanma made 17 appearances for Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League but never managed to make his debut for the senior side. However, it's understood he'll be handed another chance to impress under Klopp.
