Michael Phelps' Game Face Instantly Takes Over Twitter

He's an American household name, a legendary swimmer and the most decorated Olympian of all time.

But before today, there was still one title that eluded Michael Phelps: internet meme.

That all changed, however, when the athletic icon was spotted staring down rival Chad le Clos, a South African competitor who bested Phelps in London, ahead of their 200-meter butterfly semifinal.

Twitter's best instantly took to the reaction, likening the look to other comedic online sensations.

There were also insinuations about Phelps' possible evil powers—supervillain, Sith or satanic. 

But as two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning will attest, the gaze is a sign of a man on a mission. 

Unless, of course, he and fellow Team USA swimmer Lilly King plan on wreaking some out-of-pool havoc on their opponents...
