Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on Alvaro Morata, Paddy McNair Rumours

Rob BlanchetteAug 6, 2016

Manchester United could offer Real Madrid £45 million for Spain international striker Alvaro Morata in an audacious attempt to capture the former Juventus hitman.

Jose Manuel Garcia of El Confidencial (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror) reported the Red Devils are contemplating an approach as they attempt to strengthen their squad further after the addition of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United manager Jose Mourinho is believed to want to add firepower in the coming weeks before the transfer window shuts, and the self-proclaimed Special One is "looking at strikers."

Los Blancos recently brought the player back to the Spanish capital after a long stint in Italy, where he twice captured Serie A with the Old Lady.

Real paid £23 million for their former striker to return, as they exercised their buyback clause in his contract, per BBC Sport. However, the young attacker will have plenty of suitors if Madrid wish to make a profit in him.

Real coach Zinedine Zidane confirmed his intentions to retain Morata during his team's pre-season tour of the United States.

"Yes, Morata is a Real Madrid player," Zidane told reporters in Michigan. "We're delighted to have him back, back to his original home. He's going to remain a Real Madrid player."

Morata fell out of favour at Juventus last term but sustained a credible goalscoring ratio from the substitutes' bench. The Spaniard scored nine goals and provided nine assists in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, according to WhoScored.com, but was forced to enter from the touchline in 20 matches.

In other news, United defender Paddy McNair is the subject of interest for several clubs, with the player potentially leaving Old Trafford.

Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol outlined the interested parties:

McNair could be reunited with former boss David Moyes after the ex-United coach took the reins at Sunderland.

The 21-year-old made his debut two years ago but has struggled to force his way into the starting XI after a very promising start to his career.

Sky Sports (h/t Joe Short of the Express) reported the Northern Ireland international wants a permanent switch away from Old Trafford, with Mourinho believed to "be open to a loan deal" for talent. Celtic are also interested in taking the versatile defender north of the border.

McNair is a balanced individual with an old head on young shoulders, and away from United, he would be a regular in the Premier League.

It would be prudent of Mourinho to hold on to the player at present, as he can still develop into the elite talent he hinted at with his opening performances for United.

Morata is highly talented but will be stuck on the Real bench as he plays second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in La Liga.

He would experience much more playing time in England, but having left Madrid once, before making a success at the Bernabeu Stadium, he might want a fair crack of the whip under Zidane before a second exit.
