Ana Ivanovic was among those eliminated from the women's Olympics tennis singles event on Saturday, while American Madison Keys was one of the notable winners to progress to the last 32.

Great Britain's Heather Watson also made it through, but it was Team China who provided the day's biggest shocks, upsetting two of the top seeds in the event, including No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska.

Here are the full results from Saturday's round-of-64 matches:

Recap

Radwanska couldn't overcome a determined display from Saisai Zheng. The latter took a straight-sets victory after earning 12 points at the net and hitting 37 total winners.

Crucially, Zheng broke serve to go 6-5 up and give herself the opportunity to serve for the match. It was a chance she duly took.

Keys broke serve three times to unsettle Danka Kovinic, according to the ITF. The same source noted how the backhand was the American's favourite shot, with Keys hitting five winners off it.

Keys described her emotions to NBC, per WTA Insider:

Ivanovic didn't help her cause by losing five break points to Carla Suarez Navarro. The Spaniard also won four points at the net.

Meanwhile, Kristina Mladenovic overcame 31 unforced errors to still see off Aleksandra Krunic. Winning 43 points off her first serve formed the foundation of her victory.

Later, Italian Sara Errani weathered a powerful service game from Dutch player Kiki Bertens. The latter boomed 10 aces, but she was also guilty of a quartet of double-faults and couldn't build on winning the first set. It didn't help that she made 58 unforced errors, wasting 31 forehand winners.

Things were just as tough for 12th-seeded Timea Bacsinszky against China's Shuai Zhang. The Swiss player was pushed all the way, with WTA Insider describing one particularly memorable point:

Bacsinszky tried to break serve to stay alive in the third set and push things to a tiebreak. It wasn't the end of the drama, though:

That salvage effort gave Zhang the confidence to finally close out this epic marathon-like match and send one of the more highly regarded players in the event home early.

There was also a winning Olympics debut for Eugenie Bouchard who beat Sloane Stephens in straight sets. However, her dubious reward is a potential meeting with No. 2-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany.

To end the day's action, American Venus Williams was making a historic appearance in Rio on Saturday. Upon taking the court against Belgian Kirsten Flipkens, Williams became the first tennis player to appear in five Olympic Games.

Unfortunately, it was an underwhelming showing as she lost in three sets to Filpkens. It was also a huge upset as Williams was ranked fifth compared to Filpkens' 62nd ranking.
