Stephen Curry Named 2016 NBPA Players Voice MVP: Latest Comments, Reaction

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry keeps reeling in the hardware, as he was named the 2016 National Basketball Players Association's Players Voice MVP on Thursday:

The NBPA noted voting for the award, which was decided only by current NBA players, took place at the end of the regular season and did not take postseason performances into consideration.

Curry was also the players' pick for the Clutch Performer award. This is just the second year in which the NBPA has handed out the Players Voice Awards. Last year, Houston Rockets guard James Harden took home MVP honors.

It was a historic season for Curry, who obliterated NBA records with 402 made three-pointers on 886 attempts and was unguardable from distance in 2015-16.

On top of that, he led the league with 169 steals, 0.318 win shares per 48 minutes, a plus-12.4 offensive box plus/minus rating and a 9.8 value over replacement Player mark.

He led the Warriors to an NBA-record 73-9 campaign, but they fell one win short of the ultimate goal in the NBA Finals, squandering a 3-1 series lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers. 

But before the disappointing finish, Curry wrapped up his second straight NBA MVP award May 11, becoming the first player in league history to unanimously win the award as he swept all 131 first-place votes. 

While it might not have been unanimous Thursday, it's clear that Curry is regarded highly by his peers, who recognized his excellence.
