Jimmy Jaggers to UCLA: Bruins Land 4-Star TE Prospect

Tyler ConwayAug 4, 2016

Jimmy Jaggers may not exactly be staying close to home, but he is staying in the state of California. The 4-star tight end announced on Thursday that he'll be migrating south to UCLA as part of the Bruins' class of 2017:

Jaggers, who stars at Roseville High School (just outside of Sacramento), is the No. 249-ranked overall prospect and No. 7-ranked tight end in the 2017 class, per 247Sports. He is ranked No. 28 among players from the state of California.

Playing both ways in 2015, Jaggers compiled 12 receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns as a tight end. He also added 29 total tackles (three for loss) as a defensive end. When speaking to  of Bleacher Report in May, Jaggers mentioned some lofty names when talking of molding his game.

“I love watching Rob Gronkowski play and the way he has fun with the game. Jake Butt at Michigan is someone I see myself as being similar to as far as size, speed and the way he runs his routes,” Jaggers said.

Jagger is one of the first big recruits in an otherwise scarce UCLA class. The Bruins have locked down only six commitments thus far. Defensive end Jaealan Phillips, one of the very most sought-after players in the country, is the only other recruit labeled 4 stars or better. 247Sports currently ranks the Bruins' class No. 74 overall.

Of course, that will almost certainly change in the coming months. UCLA has wound up with the 12th-ranked class each of the last two years and hasn't been outside the top 20 during the Jim Mora era. With eight of the nation's top 11 players yet to make their verbals, there is still time for the Bruins to become a power player.

Jaggers is also the third player to commit to UCLA this week, joining cornerbacks Chris Wilson and Jaylan Shaw. It's clear Mora has stepped up his effort in recent days to start getting commitments, and Jaggers may wind up creating a domino effect.
