The move ends a four-year spell for the 29-year-old at Wolfsburg. His previous contract at the Volkswagen Arena was set to expire in 2018.

As noted by Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell, it's been suggested Gustavo will become the highest-paid player at the club:

The Brazilian previously spent two-and-a-half seasons at Bayern Munich, where he won a Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League title.

Gustavo's experience of winning trophies at the highest level undoubtedly attracted Marseille when they decided to make an approach for him.

He has carved out a deserved reputation as a strong and reliable defensive midfielder, and he has excellent distribution skills that will make him an asset for manager Rudi Garcia going forward.

Gustavo will be hoping to link up well with the likes of Morgan Sanson and Dimitri Payet and add greater depth to Marseille's midfield ranks.
