Barcelona Transfer News: Luan Fee Revealed, Latest on Gabriel Jesus Rumours

Rory MarsdenAug 3, 2016

Barcelona's search for added attacking depth goes on, and the Camp Nou outfit have now been told by Gremio it will cost them €22 million (£18.5 million) to sign forward Luan Guilherme.

Per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan, reported targets Nolito, Kevin Gameiro, Luciano Vietto and Carlos Bacca have all slipped through Barca's fingers as they look to bring in cover for Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

According to Sport, Luan, 23, is the latest target identified by Barca technical director Robert Fernandez, and although Gremio were initially reluctant to sell to "Liverpool and an Italian club," they have now issued their valuation to La Liga giants.

The report added that Luan has spoken to fellow Brazilian Neymar about a potential move to the Catalan club, but no deal will be closed imminently as the youngster is currently playing at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Brazilian football writer Paulo Freitas relayed Lancenet's claim that Gremio will actually demand more than €30 million (£25 million) to sell Luan to Barcelona:

Either way, he will not come cheap, and Barca may be reluctant to shell out up to £25 million for a player who has not proved himself outside of the Brazilian league.

In Brasileirao in 2015, he enjoyed a decent season, netting 10 goals and providing seven assists in 33 appearances, while he has contributed to seven goals in 14 matches in 2016, per WhoScored.com.

Per Sport, Barca want a "new, young forward with potential to develop and take the team forward," and Luan theoretically fits the bill.

It would be a big gamble to sign him at the fee Gremio are reportedly demanding.

The likes of Nolito, Gameiro, Vietto and Bacca are all players who have proved to be adept and effective in Europe, and if Luan is unable to adapt to La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, he could prove a significant waste of money.

However, Barca do seem to be running out of targets as Palmeiras striker Gabriel Jesus looks to be another striker to have gotten away.

According to Sport's Lluis Miguelsanz, Jesus is set to join Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for €34 million (£28.6 million) after the Sky Blues moved in to hijack Barca's deal for the 19-year-old while they were focused on signing Vietto.

Per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe, Barca have added necessary depth in some key areas during the summer transfer window, bringing in new defenders and buying back Denis Suarez to add more options to their attacking midfield:

However, they are still lacking cover, specifically for No. 1 striker Suarez, hence their eagerness to make one final addition.

Luan is seemingly a realistic option, and he is talented enough to deserve a chance at the Camp Nou, but he may not be worth the money Gremio are demanding.
