Golson Can't Shake Injury Bug with Steelers
Golson, 23, was the team's second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. But he missed the entirety of last season with a shoulder injury and came into this summer looking to battle for a starting gig or the nickelback role, where he'd be covering the slot receiver.
Golson had been running as the defense's first-team nickelback in the early practices, per Mike Prisuta of the team's official website, and safety Sean Davis stepped into that role to replace him Aug. 1.
"I did it back in minicamp and OTAs," Davis told Prisuta. "Being back out there [with the first unit] felt good."
This year's first-round pick, Artie Burns, remains in the mix to earn a starting gig or play the nickelback position while Golson is sidelined as well. So the Steelers certainly have contingency plans in place for Golson, though the player's continued injury concerns have become a major issue in his young career.
