10 Celebrity-Sports Stories You Don't Want to Admit Fascinate You

Laura DeptaAug 2, 2016

Don't you kind of want to know what is up with Aaron Rodgers and his family (even though it is surely none of anyone's business)?

Rodgers' brother Jordan's appearance on The Bachelorette has shed light on possible family tension lately, and it's hard not to be intrigued (in a "none of my business" and "this shouldn't fascinate me but does" sort of way).

Listen, maybe you're all sports, and this celebrity pop culture stuff bores you. If so, apologies. However, sometimes even the biggest of sports fans can get sucked into a little celebrity drama. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Is Julian Edelman's 2016 dating life seriously an exact replica of Tom Brady's circa 2007 or what?

If you want to know more, don't worry. It's only human.

Julian Edelman and Tom Brady Deja Vu

1 of 10

The New England Patriots are always in the news, aren't they? If it's not Rob Gronkowski partying or Deflategate drama, it's Julian Edelman's love life.

In July, TMZ published photos of the wide receiver on an apparent date with Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima.

Meanwhile, another model has said she is pregnant with Edelman's child, a claim he denied at first but later conceded to, according to Des Bieler of the Washington Post.

Bieler also pointed out the similarities between Edelman's situation and that of Pats quarterback Tom Brady circa 2007. Brady began dating his now-wife, longtime Victoria's Secret model Gisele Bundchen, in 2007 while his former girlfriend (you guessed it, a model) was pregnant.

On the field, Brady is set to miss the first four games of 2016, and the Pats are going to need their receivers to step up.

'Ballers' and Real-Life NFL Drama

2 of 10

Does the NFL have a problem with HBO's comedy series Ballers?

The show, which stars Dwayne Johnson as a former NFL player and financial manager, has featured several cameos from current players. And rumor has it, the league might not be too happy about it.

In July, producer Mark Wahlberg said on ESPN's Mike & Mike (h/t Sean Wagner-McGough of CBS Sports):

"

The first season of the show, the only calls I was getting were from guys like Roger Goodell saying, 'You can't do this,' and various owners in the league. We were saying it's actually a good thing for the league and the players because hopefully you'll get the word out there with the crazy stuff and the financial side of it and hopefully get these guys to realize that they've got to be more careful with what they do with their money.

"

The NFL denied a call between Goodell and Wahlberg ever happened. Maybe not, but still. Gotta wonder.

Kendall Jenner and Jordan Clarkson

3 of 10

Even if you don't care one bit who Kendall Jenner is dating (which would be fully understandable), you might be concerned if the gentleman happens to be a member of your favorite team.

After all, athletes with links to the Kardashian clan haven't always fared well on the field or court (right, Kris Humphries?).

Rumor has it, the model and reality star has been seeing Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson. In April, People.com called Clarkson Jenner's "secret basketball boyfriend," and Mike Vulpo of E! Online reported the two were "casually dating" in July.

Lakers fans might want to keep an eye on this one.

Nick Young's Off-Court Business

4 of 10

Speaking of Los Angeles Lakers and their love lives, the Nick Young/Iggy Azalea drama was interesting.

First, there was D'Angelo Russell's famous "bro code" violation. In March, a video that had been shot by Russell surfaced and appeared to show Young talking about infidelity.

Swaggy P and his rapper fiancee didn't break up immediately, but Iggy eventually announced their split. Per Bleacher Report's Tim Daniels, she tweeted, "I broke up with Nick because I found out he had brought other women into our home while I was away and caught them on the security footage."

Meanwhile, the drama continues. Corinne Heller of E! Online reported Young's ex-girlfriend is pregnant.

According to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers have tried to trade Young for each of the past two years. So even if you don't care about his personal life, it will be interesting to see what, if any, effect all this has on his basketball life.

Whatever Justin Timberlake Is Up To

5 of 10

Singer/actor/entertainer extraordinaire Justin Timberlake is all over sports, and it's hard not to pay attention. It's OK to even like it if you want.

For one thing, Timberlake is big into Memphis sports. He is a minority owner of the Memphis Grizzlies and recently starred in a film aimed at convincing free agent Mike Conley to re-sign with the team. (He did.) Timberlake also lobbied on Twitter for the Big 12 to accept the University of Memphis.

In addition to his Memphis fandom, Timberlake and NBA MVP Stephen Curry gave everyone #brogoals recently when the two played together at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.

And when Timberlake received the Decade Award at the Teen Choice Awards, none other than retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant presented it to him.

McKayla Maroney's Music Career

6 of 10

Here's one you might not even know about yet. Former U.S. Olympic gymnast and inspiration for one of sports' greatest memes McKayla Maroney is hoping to start a music career.

Maroney retired from gymnastic competition in February and began dabbling in music and acting.

In July, she told Hannah Orenstein of Seventeen she is inspired by Drake and added, "For the last year, I was just figuring out my sound. I've loved writing songs since I was really young. I thought I was going to be like Sia and sell my songs to people. But after they were done, I was like, 'I'm not going to sell these to anybody! I want to sing them.'"

Could this actually work? What does her music sound like? Just what is her sound?

Stay tuned.

Gisele's Role in the Olympics Opening Ceremony

7 of 10

Speaking of the Olympics, what's this about Gisele Bundchen getting "robbed" during the opening ceremony?

That's right. Mrs. Tom Brady, who hails from Brazil, will apparently have an interesting role in the festivities in Rio.

According to Timothy Burke of Deadspin, Brazil's UOL reported on statements made by folks who witnessed a dress rehearsal of the ceremony, and according to that report, Gisele's role will involve some type of staged mugging or crime.

Per Burke's translation, the show will include a "flight of a replica of the plane 14 Bis" after which Gisele will enter to the song "Girl From Ipanema." The reported simulated assault will then proceed from there.

TBD on the specifics, but getting to the bottom of this sure provides an incentive to tune in on August 5.

'Fight Valley'

8 of 10

Popular UFC fighters are sort of celebrities in their own right, no? Well, when they dabble into acting, that certainly helps.

Apparently, Miesha Tate, Cris "Cyborg" Justino and Holly Holm all appear in a new film called Fight Valley.

Seriously, it's a real thing. According to IMDb, the plot is as follows: "A young woman is found dead after getting involved in an underground fighting ring. Her sister Windsor begins training under a respected ex-fighter as she searches for the killer."

Nate Scott of For the Win wrote, "This movie is going to be an absolute nightmare of a movie, a completely putrid mess, and I couldn’t be more excited about it."

Indeed, good or bad, doesn't this pique your curiosity? Don't you kind of want to watch it? Just a little?

Johnny Manziel

9 of 10

Johnny Manziel isn't exactly a full-blown celebrity, and he isn't exactly a sports figure either. Perhaps he's neither, but for today's purposes, he's both.

After all, judging by the amount of media coverage the former Cleveland Browns quarterback gets, folks still seems to be interested in what's going on with him. Whatever Manziel does, people seem to pay attention, whether it's playing Pokemon Go at Von Miller's ESPYs party or revealing a desire to play for the Dallas Cowboys while standing outside a Hollywood nightclub.

Manziel has seemingly spent a lot of time during this NFL offseason partying and vacationing (if his Instagram is any indication). He's also been spotted with reality TV star Scott Disick and celebrity chef Mario Batali.

While his NFL future doesn't look too bright, his ability to attract media attention is alive and well.

Aaron Rodgers' Brother on 'The Bachelorette'

10 of 10

Jordan Rodgers, brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, appeared on the latest season of ABC's The Bachelorette. Throughout the show's airing, there have been several mentions of Jordan's brother and indications the two don't have much contact.

Aaron was not present at Jordan's hometown date, where the bachelorette met the rest of the Rodgers family, including matriarch Darla, patriarch Ed and Jordan's other brother, Luke.

Aaron hasn't said much about his brother's foray into reality television, but he did tell Stephanie Sutton of WISN 12 News he hasn't watched the show.

He also added, "As far as those kinds of things go, I've always found that it's a little inappropriate to talk publicly about some family matters, so I'm justI'm not going to speak on those things, but I wish him well in the competition."

Is there family drama? Is Aaron estranged from his family? If so, why?
