Racing at such a short track like Iowa, the confines ensured that every driver was going to experience some kind of traffic, which made the caution flag a regular sight. In total, six cautions eliminated 29 laps of green-flag action.
Jones dominated much of the race, leading 112 of the first 120 laps. But on Lap 121 after the third caution of the race, Elliott Sadler took the lead.
However, the race's fourth caution didn't allow him to enjoy it much as the yellow flag came out a lap later. On the restart on Lap 126, Jones took the lead right back, going in between Sadler and Ty Dillon in a three-wide formation on the first turn.
Sadler managed to finish the race in third, but he was over 10 seconds behind the winner.
Dillon, who hasn't won an Xfinity Series race since 2014, was able to grab the lead 32 laps later after the race's sixth caution. It was the first laps he had ever led at Iowa.
He still had to contend with Jones right on his heels as he remained less than one second behind him for most of his 82-lap lead.
But Dillon, who finished second, will have to wait until at least next week to break his drought as Jones took the lead back on lap 234 and he didn't relinquish it.
In total, he led 154 laps; he spoke with NBC Sports after the race:
He'll look to keep the momentum going into upstate New York as the Xfinity Series shifts to Watkins Glen for the Zippo 200 on August 6.
