Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on Dimitri Payet, Adnan Januzaj Rumours

Tom BeckJul 30, 2016

Manchester United's summer splurge is set to continue after making a move for West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet, per France Football (h/t Tom Maston of Goal).

Jose Mourinho is in the market for another attacking midfielder during this summer's transfer window, and the Portuguese head coach reportedly sees the France international as an ideal fit at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a magnificent maiden campaign in English football last term with the Hammers before producing some match-winning displays for his country in their run to the UEFA Euro 2016 final.

According to WhoScored.com, the former Marseille player scored nine goals in 30 Premier League appearances in 2015-16.

WhoScored reveal the statistics behind Payet's sensational form:

Per Maston, United's pursuit of Juventus midfielder—and international team-mate—Paul Pogba has not stopped Mourinho's scouts keeping tabs on Payet. The dynamic midfielder, who found the back of the net against United via a long-range free-kick last term at the Theatre of Dreams, has become one of the most sought-after talents in world football in recent times.

Per Nick Ames of the Guardian, Payet signed a five-year deal at Upton Park in June last year for a fee of £10.7 million. The creative force was already in sparkling form before making the move across the channel, with Ames reporting how he topped the Ligue 1 assist charts, providing 16 in 36 appearances, while also scoring seven goals.

Meanwhile, Opta revealed Payet had created 135 goalscoring opportunities in 2014-15, more than any other player in the top-five leagues in Europe.

In addition, Squawka's David O'Brien noted the impact Payet has in the final-third of the field:

Per Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has previously branded Payet "not for sale" despite considerable interest from around Europe. The Hammers chief went on to add that he valued the player at £100 million. He was quoted as saying:

"

It is the TV money. It is also clubs in Europe with Chinese money.

But Payet is not for sale. Just because a big club wants him, tough luck. He is worth £100 million. Even at his age.

He’s only done what he has done at West Ham all season. He’s a very talented player. He’s probably the best free-kick taker in the world on current form.

[...]

There might be six weeks of silliness when he bangs the table. But if you believe what he says, he wants to stay.

If someone wants to break the world record [for him] we might consider it. Because it’s not then one-sided.

The one-sided deal is if somebody comes in with £30-40million, offers the player double the money he’s on and the player wants to go. We get ripped off. Why should that be the case? We're not going to stand for it.

"

Meanwhile, one player who could be heading for the Old Trafford exit is Adnan Januzaj, per Simon Jones of MailOnline.

The Belgian forward has struggled to live up to the considerable hype following his early performances in the red of United and has now reportedly voiced his intentions to depart the club on permanent terms.

The 21-year-old spent a portion of last season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund but once more failed to make the grade as he featured in just seven matches for the club, per WhoScored.com.

According to Joe Bernstein of MailOnline, Januzaj was one of nine players told by Mourinho on Thursday they were surplus to requirements at United. Despite reportedly being told his manager would prefer him to depart the club on loan, the winger has now told officials he wants a fresh start away from Manchester with a permanent exit, per Jones.

MailOnline sport editor Mike Anstead listed the names unwanted by the new Red Devils boss:

After a breakthrough campaign in 2013 under manager David Moyes, the future looked bright for the winger. However, Januzaj's lightweight frame accompanied by some inconsistent performances appeared to shake his confidence in domestic action, and even some time away from England failed to recapture his early promising form.
