Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Marco Verratti and Jese Rodriguez Rumours

James DudkoJul 30, 2016

Marco Verratti played down talk he'll sign for Real Madrid this summer and committed his future to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in a recent interview with Spanish news agency EFE. Meanwhile, the French club has reportedly emerged as a prime suitor for Los Blancos fringe forward Jese Rodriguez, after new manager Unai Emery confirmed his interest.

Verratti told the Spanish outlet (via Le Parisien, h/t Goal's Russell Greaves): "I want to win with this team, because it's like a family. It's nice when a big team like Real Madrid is interested in you, but I decided to win with Paris."

Those words should put an end to recent speculation linking the Italian playmaker with a move to the Spanish capital. AS (h/t the Sun's Andrew Richardson) named Verratti on a list of prominent midfielders Real manager Zinedine Zidane is assessing after seemingly missing out on Manchester United target Paul Pogba.

Verratti was reportedly viewed as an alternative target to Pogba.

Yet it seems as though Verratti is content to stay in Paris. His decision makes sense since the Ligue 1 champions can match any club financially.

Verratti is also a key member of a superbly balanced midfield, one featuring the artistry of Angel Di Maria, the energy of Blaise Matuidi and the brawn of new signing Grzegorz Krychowiak.

The Italian is usually the link in the middle, a player also capable of dictating possession from deep. As talented as he is, though, it remains to seen where the 23-year-old would fit best in an equally well-balanced Real midfield.

Zidane can already rely on two efficient schemers in the form of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, while Brazilian destroyer Casemiro provides the physical complement at the base of midfield.

Real seem intent on adding to their numbers in the middle, even though their primary options are strong.

PSG Confirm Jese Interest

If there is going to be a deal between Real and PSG, it's likely to involve Jese, the latter club recently confirming its interest in the forward.

Emery talked up the player during PSG's pre-season tour of the U.S., per Paul Vinnell of Sky Sports: "It's a possibility, as are other opportunities in the transfer window. I know Jese well, the club knows Jese well, he is a good player."

A recent report from French source L'Equipe (h/t Get French Football News) named Jese as PSG's "priority" in this transfer window. After Real's recent meeting with PSG in the States, Zidane himself appeared to confirm the player will be on the move this summer, per Metro's George Bellshaw: "If he wants to leave to play more, I don’t know."

Jese does look set to ply his trade away from the Santiago Bernabeu in the new season, but there's more than one suitor for the jet-heeled attacker.

Spanish publication Marca (h/t Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo) named Premier League side Liverpool as an interested party. The Reds may have the stronger chance of pulling off a deal, per L'Equipe, the paper stating Jese would prefer a move to England's top flight (h/t Dipesh Agarwal of Sport Witness).

There does appear to be little room and few opportunities for Jese in a Real squad amply stocked in up top. The front three is set, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale flanking Karim Benzema, while the club's decision to re-sign Alvaro Morata this summer put one more obstacle in Jese's path.

It makes sense to move Jese on, but Real's continued links to marquee midfielders are tougher to decipher given the squad's strengths at the position.
