Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Players, Huge Names Linked to Red Devils

Stuart NewmanJul 30, 2016

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of AS Monaco right-back Fabinho, per Rob Pollard of the Manchester Evening News.

Reports in the defender's native Brazil suggest the 22-year-old is close to agreeing a switch to Old Trafford after a hugely impressive campaign in Ligue 1 last term.

Fabinho scored six league goals and created four more in 2015/16, according to WhoScored.com, with his marauding runs down the flank catching the eye.

As well as being blessed with expert delivery from wide positions, the Monaco man is incredibly skilful going forward, with scintillating flair carrying him past any number of defenders.

Here’s a look at what Fabinho could bring to the table at Old Trafford:

While the right-back is something of a luxury player, he appears a necessary purchase for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who worked with Fabinho at Real Madrid.

Matteo Darmian had an excellent season at full-back for United last term, but Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported Napoli are looking to snap him up with some of the funds raised from the £75 million sale of Gonzalo Higuain (via Marc Williams of the Daily Star).

Mourinho could look to get the deal over the line as quickly as possible, then, although Monaco would hold out for €30 million before letting Fabinho jump ship, according to Get French Football News:

Still, the right-back’s versatility and potential make him a wise investment, as well as an incredibly exciting one.

Elsewhere, every move of Juventus star Paul Pogba is being monitored closely, and the latest apparent hint of his impending move to Manchester United comes from the United States.

While on holiday in California, the Frenchman signed the shirt of a rather optimistic United fan who already had Pogba’s name printed on the back. The supporter shared images of his meeting with the midfielder via Instagram:

Pogba is believed to be heading to Old Trafford for a world-record fee, as reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the M.E.N., but the copious rumours of his departure from Serie A aren’t showing a great deal of substance yet.

Should Pogba return to Manchester United, the Red Devils would have a real fear factor about them.

Mourinho has invested intelligently in the transfer window so far, and if he can get one or two more signings over the line, he’d have a squad seemingly capable of winning the 2016/17 Premier League title.
