PGA Championship 2016 Leaderboard: Thursday Scores, Results and Analysis
July 28, 2016
Jimmy Walker has a one shot lead after the first day of action at the 2016 PGA Champoinship from Baltrusol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.
On the course early on a hot, humid Thursday, Walker took advantage of the cooler morning conditions to log a five-under 6—a standout performance after what has been a difficult season to date.
Three players are chasing walker at four under: Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher and Emiliano Grillo.
Just two weeks after his impressive British Open win, Henrik Stenson is also in the hunt after Day 1 at three under par, while 2015 PGA champion Jason Day sits at two under.
After a consistent season of solid golf, Dustin Johnson came to New Jersey with a chance to claim the ranking of World No. 1 from Day with a solo second-place finish, but he struggled mightily in the opening round, finishing with a seven-over par 77.
Round 2 action will pick up on Friday morning, with the first groups teeing off at 7 a.m. ET.
