Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on Oguzhan Ozyakup, James Wilson Rumours

Rob BlanchetteJul 27, 2016

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is pursuing former Arsenal starlet Oguzhan Ozyakup after the Turkey international's impressive performances for Besiktas.

Spanish outlet Deporte Valenciano (h/t Alex Harris of the Daily Star) wrote the 23-year-old has been identified as a target by the self-proclaimed Special One as he attempts to bolster his central-midfield options.

The Netherlands-born player, who has recently featured primarily as a defensive option, began his career at Arsenal, passing through their youth ranks until 2012. However, the versatile midfielder left to join the Black Eagles and has progressed in the Turkish Super Lig.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ozyakup in recent times, and Valencia are considering the player as a replacement for the outgoing Andre Gomes who has moved to Barcelona, per Deporte Valenciano. Besiktas want £16.8 million for Ozyakup, who is under contract until 2018.

The Turkish club's president, Fikret Orman, has previously mentioned United in regards to the player, saying in a press conference: "When Ozyakup leaves Besiktas it will be for Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid. A club of that calibre.”

Turkish newspaper Milliyet (h/t Eurosport and translated by Turkish Football) previously reported United scouts highlighted the midfielder after initially watching Mario Gomez.

In January, Jamie Anderson of the Daily Star reported Arsene Wenger wanted to bring his former player back to north London, noting the Gunners' former youth prospect is "tipped for stardom."

Ozyakup can also feature as an attacking player and started 31 times in the Super Lig last season, scoring an impressive tally of nine goals, according to WhoScored.com.

In other news, James Wilson and Tyler Blackett are likely to leave the Red Devils on loan as Mourinho restructures his playing squad at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News (h/t Alex Wood of the Daily Star) reported United under-21 coach Warren Joyce has admitted he doesn't yet know which talents will be heading for the exit.

After a friendly against Salford City, Joyce said:

"

We've had two games against two non-league sides so playing against men is what we're looking for to develop the players and I thought we acquitted ourselves very well tonight.

There were a lot of positives and we've no injuries.

It's funny at this stage of the season because there's a lot of lads who you don't know what's going to happen to them.

You're just trying to get them fit and playing a certain way.

Ozyakup would be a surprise capture for United but could offer true value as the club attempt to expand their options.

With huge transfer fee figures being thrown around this summer, the Turkish talent could supplement the Red Devils' experienced campaigners in the centre, such as Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The departures of Wilson and Blackett will not surprise United supporters, and both appear to have their long-term futures away from the Theatre of Dreams.

Wilson was considered United's great young hope when promoted to the starting XI by former interim manager Ryan Giggs, but the Englishman has failed to develop in the past 12 months after a mediocre loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Championship.
