Leroy Sane to Manchester City: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More

Manchester City confirmed the signing of Schalke 04 winger Leroy Sane on Tuesday, with the Germany international penning a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.

City relayed news of the transfer:

According to the Guardian, City paid £37 million to sign the young star.

Sane said that one of his key factors for joining City was the chance to work under manager Pep Guardiola, per the Sky Blues' official website:

One of the reasons I decided to join City was [Guardiola]; he convinced me to come here and that I can continue to progress. I know I will learn a lot under him and now I can take the next step in my career.

I followed Pep at Barcelona and at Bayern where he achieved a lot and worked really well with young players.

I think he can make me a more complete player. I think I will need a bit of time to start with because it’s another league and there’s a different style of play but I think I can adapt very quickly.

Per Sky Sports' Edward Tarlton, Sane, 20, was previously linked with a number of top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but it is City who have claimed the highly rated youngster.

He will bring yet more flair and creativity to an attacking line that includes Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Jesus Navas and Raheem Sterling.

Indeed, Sane will be valuable to Guardiola as he can operate on either flank or through the middle, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:

For Schalke last season, he most regularly played on the right wing, netting eight goals and providing six assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances, per WhoScored.com.

As noted by Sky Sports, he was more effective in the 2015-16 German top-flight campaign than either Navas or Sterling were in the Premier League, and he will likely battle with City's wingers for a starting spot under Guardiola:

A precocious talent, Sane has already earned four senior caps for Germany and played a small role as part of the world champions' squad at Euro 2016.

He is devastating with the ball at his feet, boasts incredible pace and loves to take on defenders, while his link-up play with other attackers is also excellent, as can be seen below:

Sane is unlikely to break immediately into the Sky Blues' first team given the quality they already have in their attacking ranks.

However, with City set to be fighting for domestic and European trophies in 2016-17 and beyond, he will get his chances and is sure to only improve under Guardiola's tutelage.

A terrific prospect, Sane has the potential to become one of the top players in the world, and he could prove to be a key part of the City squad over the coming seasons.
