Liverpool Transfer News: Joe Allen Medical After Stoke Agreement, Latest Rumours

Rory MarsdenJul 24, 2016

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Stoke City on Monday ahead of a move from Anfield to the Bet365 Stadium.

According to James Pearce in the Liverpool Echo, Welshman Allen, 26, has agreed personal terms with the Potters and now needs only to pass his medical before making a £13 million switch to Stoke.

Pearce added that Swansea City failed to match Stoke's bid in an attempt to re-sign their former player who left for Liverpool in 2012 for £15 million.

Allen has earned himself many fans while with the Reds, and there will surely be plenty at Anfield sad to see him go.

However, per FourFourTwo's Huw Davies, the midfielder's move to Stoke looks a good solution for all parties involved given that Allen failed to claim a regular starting spot in manager Jurgen Klopp's side last term:

He started only eight Premier League games in 2015-16, with Emre Can, James Milner and Jordan Henderson all ahead of him in the pecking order under Klopp, per WhoScored.com.

Indeed, Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe did not include Allen in his predicted lineup for Liverpool in the coming season, indicating that Klopp could potentially add even further midfield depth to his squad in the summer transfer window:

At Stoke, Allen will be assured of a great deal more playing time, and he is deserving of a first-team spot in a Premier League side.

Per Opta, he proved with Wales at Euro 2016 that he is capable of performing at the very highest level:

His attributes, both as an effective dictator of play and disruptor of opposition attacks, will make him very valuable for Stoke manager Mark Hughes.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly preparing "a last-ditch bid" to sign Leicester City's 19-year-old left-back Ben Chilwell.

Per the Sun's Alan Nixon, Liverpool will offer £8 million for the Englishman, and the Reds believe Chilwell "would be prepared to come to them" despite being offered a new five-year deal to stay with Premier League champions Leicester.

Nixon added that Klopp sees Chilwell as a long-term Liverpool player, and the Reds need added strength at left-back, where the inconsistent Alberto Moreno is currently the No. 1 option.
