Clausen to Work Out for Lions on Monday
Sunday, July 24
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Clausen's upcoming opportunity in Detroit and added that the signal-caller also worked out for Washington recently.
Clausen has appeared in 21 games as a pro and has a passer rating of 61.9 with seven touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Last season, Clausen appeared in two games apiece for the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens. The latter stint reunited him with former Bears head coach and current Ravens offensive coordinator Marc Trestman.
In going 0-3 as a starter in 2015, Clausen didn't get his team closer than 20 points to victory when he started. He would at least be entering a clear backup situation in Detroit, which is all he's proved capable of doing despite being a 2010 second-round draft pick.
The Lions have had the benefit of former No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford starting every game under center for the past five seasons, limiting the need for a second-string QB.
It's realistic to believe Detroit will pass on Clausen. The team has a couple of alternatives in career backup Dan Orlovsky and rookie sixth-rounder Jake Rudock.
